Guidelines for adaptation to climate change in the insular area of the district of Cartagena de Indias

Agriculture, vulnerability and adaptation: Climate-compatible development in the agricultural sector of upper Cauca, Colombia

The insular area that for historical and jurisdictional reasons belongs to the district of Cartagena de Indias, includes the archipelagos of Rosario and San Bernardo and the islands Fuerte and Barú, and is one of the most important geographical elements of the district. The guidelines for adaptation to climate change proposed in this document are a roadmap for an action that seeks to promote measures that enable communities to be prepared for the risks produced by climate change and at the same time take advantage of the opportunities offered by timely adaptation for the socio-economic development of this territory. The guidelines defined are the result of more than a year's work with the leaders and communities of each of the islands through representative workshops. In this process, it was possible to identify current and future vulnerability to climate change, adaptation measures to address it, means to strengthen local capacities and also present a successful example of island areas adapted to climate change at the national level.
